Article Marketing the Big Panda Way

The new changes in Google algorithms, also known as “big Panda”, killed article marketing as we know it. If you don’t believe me here is how the new algorithms will affect the traditional article marketers:

  1. The new algorithms penalize the “content farm” websites. According to Google this includes any website that provides contents in varying topics. This description applies to article directories.

  2. Article directories traffic dropped significantly during the week after the announcement of the new algorithms.

  3. Articles when republished on other websites are “copied content”. This means the sites that republish your articles will get penalized, which will reduce the value of the links you get from those sites.

  4. If you do direct article marketing then your source of traffic will drop significantly because the articles that provide you with the traffic are now getting less traffic themselves.

This means the end of some businesses, which is bad news for some and great news for others.

Article marketing had been abused big time by spammers who spin articles and republish them all over the net to get back links. Those are among the most affected ones. But that doesn’t mean that good marketers are not going to be affected as well.

The great news is that spammers lost their spots in the search engines, which gives the opportunity for legitimate high quality content to replace them. And this is your chance my friend.

Now you don’t need to think about the “authority” issue anymore because the sites that had the authority like ezinearticles and hubpages lost it with the new change. This gives your website the chance to get the love it deserves from search engines.

This is a great news, but only if you do it right.

Here are some thoughts about it and how to do it.

First of all your website should be highly specific. No broad topics anymore. This makes long tail keywords more appealing to you. Build your site around those highly specific, laser targeted long tail keywords.

The second and equally important thing is to put some effort in the research behind your content. As per Google’s own words on their blog: “At the same time, it will provide better rankings for high-quality sites—sites with original content and information such as research, in-depth reports, thoughtful analysis and so on”. And this is exactly what you need to do: research, in-depth reports, and thoughtful analysis.

Provide the ultimate value that your visitors will love to share with their friends and contacts. This will get the word about your website around faster than regular marketing techniques. Easier said than done you might say, but think about it this way: you spend some time adding real value to your site and save the time and headache of bribing your visitors to tell their friends, or spend money and time on the old viral marketing techniques (tell a friend, viral traffic generators …) and still get penalized by search engines because your content could be found elsewhere maybe with higher value added.

This is about your own website and what to do with hit. It might take you longer to create such websites but this is your only chance of getting search engine love, and most importantly, the love of your website visitors. But what about backlinks?

Article directories used to be the best method of getting backlinks by providing high quality content that website owners would republish on their sites and your links at the end of the article will be now coming from their websites. But after the new changes how are you going to get those backlinks?

They are still essentials and you’ll need them for increasing your ranking and getting more traffic from search engines.

First of all, the good content will eventually attract the quality backlinks. But as marketer you can not wait for those love backlinks, you need to actively promote your site.

Here is the how it might work right now after the new changes:

First you need to establish yourself as an authority in the subject of your site. You do this by publishing 100 articles or more in your subject (be very specific here) on ezinearticles.com. You are still getting backlinks from these articles but they are not going to be of the same value as they used to be before, but your goal is to establish yourself ad an authority.

After that use the tools given to you by ezinearticles, like the widgets, and build an “author résumé”. Start contacting websites in your field to offer providing them with free content with one anchored link back to your site in each article. Start with those sites that already have your articles published on them, explain to them how the new algorithms will affect their sites and offer unique articles to them for free to replace the ones they published for you.

It’s going to be a lot of work because these articles that you’ll be offering must be at the same level of value as your own website, but it’s totally worth it.

Here you go, a full plan to replace the old fashion, low-value, article marketing technique with a new one that Google loves and at the same time enriches the Internet ecosystem with real value.

100% Free Method to Make Money Online

This post might be the most important one so far on Marketing Online 101 because it will outline and explain in some details how someone without any marketing experience or budget can use the free tools on the Internet to generate a steadily growing income on the Internet. This is a 100% free method to make money online, I am not charging for it and the whole process doesn’t involve paying for anything.

First I’ll explain the theory about this idea. There are 4 factors involved in this theory:

1. With almost all of the affiliates under the sun had their Google Adwords accounts suspended, Google is left with corporate companies that use Google ads to build a brand awareness rather than direct response. These companies care only about the eyeballs that will see their ads and nothing else. And they have the budget to spend on those ads. This also means that they don’t care about the keywords or your site content except from the legal point of view.

2. The way taught on Clickbank ebooks and on forums and blogs is that the best way to make money with a blog is to build it around a certain topic and be extremely targeted. This is good for direct response marketing, but not for this method. In this method your main focus is to build a blog around anything and get tons of traffic to that blog.

3. Google provides the tools that you can use to know what is it that people are searching for right now, so that you write about it and get exposure from this buzz to your blog, on which you’ll be posting adsense ads as a starter, later you’ll switch to other advertising platforms so that you don’t get under Google’s mercy.

4. People are people, and people treat an authority person in a different way than treating a friend. With authority people get their needs done and they don’t want to know that authority person anymore because of the negative feeling they’ll have as being inferior to that authority person. With friends, on the other hand, people tend to be loyal to their friends, and they visit and go out together without holding anything back. We want people to feel that the person behind this blog is a friend, not an authority. This can get them to come back, especially if they agree with your views.

So what we need to do is to get you a personal blog, then you need to blog about what people are searching for right now from your own personal point of view. Get your blog exposed to the searchers. Install Google Adsense on your blog and and start making money.

But hold on. You need to understand one concept: You got to be personal, be yourself, and blog freely from the keyword oriented traditional blogging that makes money. Just forget all about money for now. Your only focus is to be yourself on the blog.

There is one condition though. The main theme or subject of your domain will be something you truly love and can keep writing and providing content to your blog for a long time. The reason you need to write about something you’ve experienced and you have passion for is that you want to write without any fear of being right or wrong. You’re being yourself, that’s all. Write from the heart if you want to reach the heart of your readers. Just don’t post information you are not sure about because you might hurt someone or get hurt this way.

Now let’s take action on this basis and explain with the example how to apply this plan. And it starts with you and our passion. If you want this project to be a long term one then treat it as such.

Pick up a pencil and a blank sheet and write down the top 3 things you have passion for and have some knowledge about. This condition is in place to help you pick a subject you can write about every day all day without being bored or exhausted. You need to keep blogging about your subject for a long time.

If you need help on deciding what you are good at ask your friends and people you just started to know or deal with recently and get their impression about your abilities.

These are the top 3 issues that you can work with. No matter what you are going to write about, as long as you are going to be personal and write from the heart you are ok. And keep in mind that if you are interested in this issue them there might be a bunch of other people interested in the same thing.

The second step is to get yourself a blogger blog for free from Google. This will be your personal blog but with a personality of it’s own that goes with your audience.

I don’t really like it and would never do it myself because Google deleted one of my blogs before. In the process of trying to get it back I realized that I could have saved more money in terms of the hours I spent on the issue valued at the minimum wage if I started with my own domain hosted on my own. But for the sake of keeping this method 100% free I’ll stick to blogger. Just be warned that having your blog on blogger is risky. You could be at the top and making tons of money from it when Google decides to delete your blog because of a false spam detector or a complaint from a competitor. By the time you’ll get it back you would have lost your audience and would have to start allover. If you want to play it safe scroll down to the bottom of this page and get yourself a reliable hosting from the same company hosting this blog.

Write about anything and everything as long as you have passion for it there is a big chance that some other people in this world share your interests.

If you don’t have an adsense account apply from within your blogger from a tap called “monetize”. If you already have one use the same tap to insert Google Adsense codes in default places.

Please also note that a personal blog is more likely to be accepted in Google adsense program than any other blogs because you don’t seam to be planning on using it as an affiliate, which you are not.

After you start seeing traffic coming to your blog start writing about the buzz. Here is how to know:

Go to Google trends and you’ll see what people are searching for now on the Internet. If you have passion for a certain topic or keyword go ahead and write about it immediately.

To start sending traffic to your blog you are going to stay in the mode for a while, write some articles on this particular word or issue. From those articles link back to your original article. Start publishing those articles on the web over a period of a time. Such buzz words or subjects are not all going to be within your strength area. But that’s alright. You are not required to write about anything unless you can do it and know that you will enrich the Internet community with your articles and your personal opinion about what is going on around and share some of your wisdom with the world.

Since your posts are talking about the current buzz and the news, then it’s justified to use free press releases. These are able to show on the first page of search results and stay there for a while, long enough for your blog to start getting traffic.  After that use dig, stumbleupon, reditt, and delicious to bookmark your article.

Now about the articles that you’ll be using to market your blog, there is a difference here between what you post on your blog and what you write for publishing. On your blog you be yourself, but the marketing articles need to be in a formal language to get accepted for publishing. Also the well-written articles get picked up by other publishers and give your website the link juice that help with the ranking process.

The marketing articles can be linking to the corresponding page on your blog if you are rewriting your blog post. This is one way to go.

Another way is to write about something else that’s hot right now. Your author bio box can be just an introduction to the reader about yourself and a link to your blog. A well written article, especially if you are giving valuable information or a controversial point of view about a publish issue, the readers will want to learn more about you and will visit your website to do so.

As I said above and I repeat it here again, you want to give your readers something valuable to read (or watch). You are not trying to  sell anything or get them to take any action out of the ordinary. Just keep them coming by posting new posts and publishing new articles.

The best way to get exposure from article marketing is to submit your articles to ezinearticles.com. This article directory gets tons of traffic and you can get yourself some decent traffic directly from your bio box. The other advantage is that they are picky on what to allow for publications. That’s why they are the number one option for publishers who want some valuable material for their websites.

A lot of marketers differentiate between direct article marketing as a method of sending traffic straight to the website, and link building where you want to attract publishers to pick up your articles for republishing. For the purpose of this method don’t follow their advice.

Your goal is to provide value and get LOYAL visitors who will come back often. If you pitch them in your bio box to click on the link and visit your site most probably that will be their only visit to your site.

Of course your valuable content is one way to get their loyalty, but there are other things you can do. For example, make your posts highly controversial. This will please some of your readers and displease others. On the comment section they will start either upraising or insulting you, and that’s fine because they’ll soon forget about you and start arguing with each other, which means coming back every now and then to add to continue the conversation.

Another thing to do is to add a poll about this controversy and let them compete on who’s side has more supporters. Sometimes the readers will do the email marketing for you to get more votes to their cause.

Now let’s move on to the monetizing process

Google ads are the first option because they pay well. Google adwords are very expensive and are getting more expensive every minute due to the competition. Being on the advertiser side was a real pain in the you know what, but as an adsense publisher it’s all working to your advantage.

One way to go if you are using blogger is to let Google decide where to put their ads. They want to make money as much as you do, so they will display the ads where they think is profitable. That’s usually a side bar and a 300×250 box at the end of the post. You can also experiment with a leader board adsense widget on top of everything.

From my personal results, which could be just me, is that when the side bar with the ads is to the left it gets a higher click through rate. That’s because English language readers start from the left to the right and they spot the ads more quickly when they are at the beginning of their reading before they give their attention to your writing.

Also when you set up your adsene blocks keep it open to both image and text ads. Images work better for branding and this is what big corporations want. And they pay per 1000 impressions rather than clicks. Besides, if order for an image ad to take a full block that’s supposed to serve 3 more text ads, that image ads bid should exceed the next highest 3 bidders in order to take this spot. That means a higher revenue per click for you.

I hope this post isn’t too boring. I wrote it while half asleep, and when I woke up in the morning I found a lot of nonsense about learning how to cook and stuff. So if you find something odd like that please use the comment section below to tell me about it. When I have time later I promise to come back to it and revise it, or maybe organize it a little bit to make it easy to follow.

Affiliate Marketing 102 – Placement of Affiliate Links

Since you are going to be using free blogging service it’s important that you never directly link to an affiliate offer, especially with blogger. I had a blog deleted because I posted a direct link to an affiliate offer from PDC. It’s not a secret now that Google hates affiliates, so be careful.

So the first thing to do is to cloak your affiliate link. There are url shortening services that you can use, such as tinyurl.com and bit.ly. There are also some products on clickbank that offer cloaked urls that you can use directly.

So … no direct linking on blogger.

With that settled we can expand on strategic positions to place your affiliate link, and how to present it.

First of all the side bar is one place you must place your affiliate link, anchored by a picture of the product and/or text, above the fold. Above the fold is the part of the blog that shows for the visitor without having to scroll down.

Another strategic placement of the affiliate link in text is at the end of relevant posts, like the example we used to explain the pitch post in the last article.

Another placement that’s been less effective for me is within the post itself. For example, if your post is about a software that spies on other users you might want to link to the product with your cloaked affiliate link anchored to the text “spy on your spouse’s computer behavior”.

The first two positions are the best in terms of conversion, the last one never got me real money, so I don’t recommend it.

There is a different non-conventional placement, which is a full page ad that covers your website. It works, but there are two downsides:

1. The software is not free, if you can code it yourself go ahead, but if you can’t then you have to buy it.

2. You need tons of traffic to your site in order to split test different offers, weed out the losers and focus on the winners.

This type of advertising is tricky. From a research paper published by a team in University of Toronto last summer, the interruption aggressive advertising works best when the ad content are totally different from the website content, as opposed to the normal on site placement that should be relevant to the website content in order to be effective.

So .. go ahead, cloak your affiliate urls and post them on the side bar and after the relevant posts.

The rest of the series will focus on how to send free traffic to your free blog so that you start making some money.

Affiliate Marketing 102: Blog Content 2: The Pitch

To get your readers to respond to your affiliate offers you need to ask them to do so. Trying to get your readers to buy or subscribe to your offer is called “pitching”. Example: “This offer is only available to you through this link and for a limited time only. Buy it today!”. Sounds like a pushy sales pitch, but it clearly demonstrates the pitching.

There are two types of pitching that you need to know as an affiliate: soft and hard pitching.

A hard pitch is like the example above. You are telling your readers that they have to buy the product or service that you are recommending through your link by generating urgency (limited time) and scarcity (only available through this link). It would be a lie of course if it’s not, but you can offer a complementing bonus and make it available to those who buy from your link only within a certain time frame.

In the hard pitch you are directing your readers to what you want them to do very bluntly.

In the soft pitch, on the other hand, you can use all psychological tricks like the urgency and scarcity but without pushing. Example: “This had been a problem that got me to stay up every night until I found this product and since then my life changed and my problem has been solved. You too can do the same, here is the link to get one like mine.”

So, you are not directly asking your readers to buy the product you are promoting. Instead you are giving them reasons to consider buying it on their own.

There is no rule to when to use a hard pitch and when to use a soft one, at least until the time of writing this article. So you have to test both and see which one will generate more sales.

So far your blog should have at least 5 articles each one is answering a question that your product provides an answer for. These articles provide the content that search engines are looking for. Link to each one of them from at least one article published on ezinearticles.com and/or squidoo lens.

By adding the pitch post (term courtesy: Amish Shah) you are giving your readers a reason to consider, and maybe buy your product. Now it’s time to link to this post and drive traffic to it.

Start with linking to this post from all of the other posts on your blog. Internal linking is very important, and it’s under your control. Do that first then start writing articles and building squidoo lenses and hubpages and link back to both the home page and the pitch post from each article you publish on other people’s sites.

Affiliate Marketing 102: Affiliate Blog Content 1

After you build your blog you need to do two things:

1. Add content to your blog, and

2. Get your blog added to Google index.

So first we need to add some content to your blog. You only need one post to get your blog indexed easily, so let’s focus on that.

To avoid looking spammy you need to avoid linking to any affiliate offers you are promoting. Just provide free information about the subject that your offer is related to. For example, if you are promoting a dating offer write a few posts about dating and publish them on your blog.

Sounds easy? I hope so.

It’s better if you can write about 5 articles, each article should be answering one question that your readers might have in mind. To know what people need to know precisely go to Google external keyword tool and search for keywords or phrases that have been searched by people interested in your offer. To continue with the same example above search Google external keyword tool for dating, and to be more specific let’s consider that your offer is about single parents dating. You can start by an article about dating tips for single moms, another one for single dads, then a couple more dating advice articles for both, and maybe another one about building rapport between your kids and your date.

These are useful topics and are easy to rank for so that you start getting traffic from search engines. Now it’s time to get your blog indexed. There are two things to do so that you get indexed quickly.

1. Submit your RSS feed url to feed directories, and

2. Get a link from another website.

The RSS feed submission can be done by many services, one of them is feed shark. It submits feed and pings your blog to all available directories. You only need to provide two urls: your blog url and your RSS feed url. You get the RSS feed url by clicking on the orange icon that you see right now in the url field of your browser if you are using firefox.

To get backlinks to your blog simply leave a comment with your blog url in the “website” field on the top 10 blogs when you search Google for your keyword. Some blogs have the links set as “no follow” links. Those are not going to help in indexing. To avoid those you need to install a plug in for Firefox and Global Mojo called “do no follow”. The no follow links will show in purple color on your browser.

You can also write an article about your blog subject and link to your blog in the first paragraph. Publish this article on other blogs that allow you to write for them, like 3stepads.com.

If you do all of the above your blog could be indexed in a few hours. If not, be patient and continue adding content to your blog.

Please keep in mind that this free method for affiliate marketing is going to involve a lot of writing. So, if you don’t like writing you’d better get used to it :-). Just kidding. The kind of writing that I mean  here is like writing an email to someone about your topic. If you can write an email then you’re all set and ready to take off.

Please leave a comment with your questions or suggestions. This is how I decide what topic to write about next.

Affiliate Marketing 102: Building a Free Blogger Blog for Affiliate Marketing

Another free blogging service, which is easy to rank in search engines if you do it right, is Google’s own blogger.com. The reason it’s easy to rank is that Google gives blogger.com so much authority (I don’t really know why) that I’ve seen some blogger blogs ranking in the top 5 with less than 60 inbound links as compared to thousands required by the rest of the top 10 websites for the same keyword.

Setting up a blogger blog is easy, and here is how to do it:

  1. First of all you need a Google account. Even if you already have one, get yourself a new one dedicated to this purpose.
  2. The next step is to go to blogger.com and log in with your new credentials.
  3. Follow the steps outlined in the following video. You can change everything later if you are not happy with them, but try to get your target long-tail keyword in the url and the title.
  4. Manage your blog using draft.blogger.com. This way you’ll have better options in designing your blog.
  5. Click on the “settings” tab and write a description for your blog that includes your long tail url and at the same sounds like a call to action. Example: “Muscles 101 is dedicated to educate young men on how to build strong and spectacular muscles”. Keep it within 160 characters. Don’t change anything else and save your settings.
  6. Start blogging about your subject. Don’t include any affiliate links yet, not until your blog is indexed and you build some link juice.

In the following posts I’ll show you how to get your blog indexed quickly and how to build inbound links to your blog.

As usual I want to remind you of two things:

1. Free blogs, specially blogger, are not the best option. If you can afford your own domain and hosting do it and don’t leave a ton of money on the table to blogger.com. Besides blogger.com deletes blogs randomly as a spam counteract, and if your blog’s main purpose is affiliate marketing there is no way you can get it again, I assure you.

2. If you want to help keep this series going in the right direction please leave your comments below and share this post with your friends who might be interested. Your and your friends comments will help decide how this series will flow.

Affiliate Marketing 102: Building a Free Blog that Google Loves

After you decide what to build a blog around it’s time to actually build it. Without going into technical challenges, there is one easy way to do it: sing up for a free wordpress blog at wordpress.com. Your blog url will be something like this: http://yoursubdomain.wordpress.com. From within your account install “all in one SEO pack” plug in, fill in the blanks and it will do all the on site SEO for you.

To keep you in the know, the on-site SEO includes linking all the pages together so that each page is accessible from anywhere on your website with at least one link, and each page is anchor-linked to from all other pages at least once (if possible). Also, the all in one SEO pack plug in changes your urls to include the category, page, and subpage (you can do it manually by changing the permealinks). This structure is known as “silo structure”, which means that the url for each page should look like this: http://domain.com/category/page.html, or http://domain.com/category/subcategory/page.html.

Ok, I know it doesn’t make sense if you’re not familiar with it: here is a diagram for this silo structure:

If you are not familiar with wordpress.com here is a video on how to sign up for a free account.

And this is another video on how to set it up. The first part explains how to install it on on your server using fantastico. (There is a 25% off coupon for hostgator hosting and it’s good for any package, see the top right corner of this page).

And here is how to install All-in-One SEO Pack plugin:

This should keep you busy for a while. The next one will be about doing it with Googles Blogger.com. Stay tuned my friend.

Affiliate Marketing 102: 100% Free Money for Affiliates

IMPORTANT: This is NOT a prelaunch for a product or anything. I am not selling my secrets for any price. So rest assured that I am not going to ask you to buy anything from me at any point. This method utilizes only free resources.

Throughout my websites I stress on one fact that makes a difference between making money and building a business on the Internet: Don’t settle for “free” stuff. Free web hosting, free traffic, and free autoresponders in particular are the biggest “No No”s for me.

With that out of the way, I know that it’s not an option for every one on the planet to pay for hosting and autoresponders or buy advertising. Sometimes it’s money, sometimes it’s the lack of the method of payment as for most of those who live in African countries.

So, here is a simple plan for making money on the Internet building simple free blogs and monetizing them with affiliate links and contextual advertising while driving free traffic to these blogs.

First of all here are the outlines of the plan:

1. Finding a niche, so easy and simple that any kid in the third grade can do it.

2. Choosing the keywords to build the blog around.

3. Building the blog in a way that Google loves (so that we get the free Google traffic).

4. Building a list of the subscribers with a free autoresponder.

5. Driving tons of free traffic to your free blog.

6. Monetizing the blog with affiliate links and contextual advertising blocks.

Now that’s not going to be a killing technique that you’ve never heard about (probably) before, or something that will get you rich over the weekend. It’s a proven method to make some money using free tools available to everyone on the Internet, but this income could, and will, vary greatly from person to person and from time to time. There is also a risk that these free tools might change their rules in a way that makes it impossible for this method to work anymore. It is highly recommended that if you have the means to at least buy a domain name and host it on your own hosting (see the top right corner of this page for a good deal on hosting), please go ahead and do it.

With that disclaimer out of the way, we can start explaining the plan in details:

1 & 2. Finding Niches and Keywords:

Finding the niche, or the subject for your blog material, is where you’ll need to spend most of your time and energy before you start building your money making blog, because based on your results there will be a difference between making some good money and money little to no money at all.

It’s not that hard, and anyone can do it. Here are the steps:

  • Watch infomercials and take note of the products they are selling (don’t buy anything :-), you’re working now).
  • Make a list of the PROBLEMS that they solve, e.g. weight loss, back pain, osteoporosis, hearing troubles … etc. Then shortlist these problems to what you have some knowledge about or have passion for (building muscles for example).
  • Go to clickbank’s market place and find products that solve these or related problems. These products and their gravity indexes are indicators of the size of the market. The more products you find and the higher the gravity indexes the more competitive the market is. There is no rule for it. I had success selling products with less than 1 gravity index and failed miserably with products with gravity index above 300.

IMPORTANT: STAY AWAY FROM WEIGHT LOSS, YOU-KNOW-WHAT-ENLARGEMENT, WORK FROM HOME, OR ANY THING YOU SEE IN  YOUR EMAIL SPAM BOX.

Anything that your email provider filters out as a spam is also considered spam by most of the free blog service providers and the content sharing websites you’ll be using if you stick to this method.

  • Go to Google keyword tool and find a keyword related to your market that is not too specific and not too broad, and get’s like 2000-4000 local searches in the US. The too specific keyword will probably trigger spam bots, and the too broad ones will be too competitive for a free blog to rank in search engines for it.
  • Check the competition for this keyword by searching it on Google in quotes (like this: “keyword”) and see how many websites will show for it. This is the simplest way to do it. Also take note of the sponsored ads. No ads is not a good sign.

It’s not going to be a piece of cake. You’ll probably need to keep searching for keywords related to your niche of choice for a while until you find the suitable keyword.

That should keep you busy for a while. This is your homework. Find a niche and related keywords until the next post comes out.

List Building 101: How to Get your List Members to Take Action

Getting your subscribers to take the action you want is what you build the list for, isn’t it? And to get them to take the desired action is what makes the difference between a virtual ATM machine and a pain in you know what.

There are several factors that affect this relationship between you and your subscribers and they take place during all of the steps of the process even while building the list. I’ll focus on the most important ones from my point of view in this article. But first let’s first identify what actions you want them to take.

There are 3 main actions you want your subscribers to do when you send them an email:

1. You want them to open and read your email.

2. You want them to understand that there is a benefit waiting for them when they click on the link in your email.

3. You want them to buy what you are selling (or promoting) once they are on that website.

So your goal is to make sales, and that can not be achieved if your subscribers don’t open your email and read your message. There are reasons you open emails from somebody and ignore those from another person. Let’s have a look at what factors interfere in making this decision.

First and before you even start building your list, the niche itself plays a strong role. Say you are in the dog training niche for example, people don’t take action earlier than 14 days from being exposed to your message.

Another important factor about the niche, if it is something you don’t really like to talk about, as in the above example you are not a huge dog lover or you don’t even have one, it will be hard for your subscribers to feel your passion because it really doesn’t exist. Being passionate about your niche transmits to your subscribers in your words and they feel it. If you are not talking to them from your core identity (borrowed from Frank Kern in “Core Influence”) you have less chances of getting your subscribers to take the action you want.

The equally important factor as being passionate about what you are selling is your history with your list. Do all the good things in the world, then send your list to a crappy product/offer and you can kiss most of your subscribers goodbye. It takes only one bad recommendation to screw your relationship with your subscribers.

So you need to do your homework and make sure you are recommending really great value. Only recommend stuff that you know will deliver more value than the money they will pay for it. And this is under your control. Even if the offer’s value is high enough, you can add more value by giving your bonuses that complement it and make the best combination since Saturdays and Sundays.

If you happen to goof about it, and its possibly not your mistake (like when the product you are recommending goes out of date the next day because of a change in a law or some rules), make sure you make it up for your subscribers. First admit it and apologize to them, then send them a free gift. If you have their physical addresses, and your niche is profitable, try sending them a physical gift if you can. Physical gifts can be visible all the time, while digital ones are only visible when you come across it on your hard disk.

The last factor for today is that you need to be clear about the action you want your subscribers to take. Ask them to click on the link and buy what you are recommending. Give good reasons for the action you are asking them to take. If you are not sure how this product will help them then it’s not a good idea to write to your list about it.

That’s it for today. Now please go back to the top and read this article again. If you think it’s a good article to share, please use the twitter button at the top to tweet about it, or share it with your social friends using the buttons below.

List Building 101: The Best Source of Traffic

To build a list you need to have a website, on which you have a lead capture form you (you got from an autoresponder) on what is called the “Landing Page”. This page is where you’ll be sending your visitors to see your offer and subscribe to your list in order to receive it.

Building a website, copy writing, and designing a landing page is not rocket science, but if you have the money to outsource it (or just out task it) go for it. The hours, or days, that you will spend on doing this is much better used in finding markets and designing list building machines … let someone else worry about the technical stuff.

Once you have a “list building machine” you need to start sending people to the landing page. Most of the time you’ll hear people, including myself, talking about PPC, banners, social media, SEO … etc. Those are great sources for the long run, but you want thousands of people to sign up to your list now, then add some more using the above sources of traffic.

Here is what the “gurus” do, and works like charm every time:

Joint venture with people who already have lists and give them a good percentage of what you are charging for entering your list (whether on the front or the back end).

To do that go to Google and search for your niche. You’ll find websites that have lead capture forms. This means they are building lists. Send them emails requesting a joint venture: they send their list emails about your offer and in return you give them 75-100% of the immediate revenue when they take action.

This way you’ll have an army of list owners sending you the most responsive people on their lists for free. You pay them the money that they will make you, and only when you get paid that money.

If you do it right, like having them create a buzz for you a week or two in advance before your site goes live, then let them all know in advance that the offer will be available in a specific time window … if you do it this way you’ll get flooded with new members signing up to your list in a matter of hours.

Owning this list, and managing it the right way (by building trust and emotional attachment with your subscribers) is your gate to have money knocking your door asking you to take it.

By owning a huge responsive list you get other webmasters and list builders to contact you and ask you to do just the same as you did to build your list. Do that in different niches, like one niche every month, and in one year you’ll have 12 virtual ATM machines that only cost you hosting and autoresponder fees.
