Drew Barrymore: An Example to be Followed by Business Start ups

One of the best example to study as a business start up is the story of Drew Barrymore who went from an alcohol and drug abusing child with no proper parenting to a business owner and celebrity.

Drew Barrymore started her career as an actress as early in her life as 11 month old. Then she costarred the big shot at the time ET movie at the age of 6.

So she started building a celebrity status early in her life. She had to rebuild it after the rehab from alcohol abuse (age 11) and drugs (age 12). This is the heart breaking part to know about any child, and it is enough to ruin anyone for the rest of his/her life.

The rebuilding was not as easy as starting, but it helped her that people already know her from her childhood roles. She started with small roles and kept building momentum to the point that she became the celebrity that we know right now.

One more thing to consider about her case is that she is one of the beauty icons in the world and for years she’s been a Cover Girl model.

Now about her business ventures. The first business she had was Flower production company. This is what she had experience with and wanted to build a business in it. She also directed some of the movies produced by her company. Diluting herself thin I don’t think she liked it to live like that (work + stress = no fun even if you like what you’re doing).

She had a partner in her production business. And if nothing else at least it gave her the chance to portray herself the way she wanted in the roles she played in the movies she produced and directed.

The second business is the one to focus on because this is the big shot she’s done with a bunch of right decisions that helped her new company shoot up and eat up a big sector of the already saturated market. It is also a model to follow in Internet marketing.

Remember above I mentioned that she became a beauty icon and modeled for Cover Girl for years. When it was time, Drew Barrymore started her own cosmetics and make up company Flower Beauty.

First let’s focus on the bunch of right decisions I pointed to above.

The first decision is to use herself as an advocate and marketing material for her company. She’s already been established in the minds of her fans as the beautiful girl next doors. They already love her and some will try to look like her. When she says she’s “wearing a full face make up from Flower Beauty” on the late show her fans will look for those products to do their own faces.

The second right decision she’s made is to partner with a giant in the retail world; Walmart. Flower Beauty products are sold exclusively at Walmart stores across the US and Canada.

This is a win-win-win for her, Walmart, and the consumers. Walmart will get more customers just for the cosmetics section due to this partnership with the beauty icon Drew Barrymore (this is not me talking here, it’s the market, I absolutely have nothing to do with this).

The consumers are winners because of the low price tags on Flower beauty products. At Walmart everything is priced lower than it is anywhere else due to the large volumes of sales, and this goes also to Flower Beauty products.

And Drew Barrymore is a winner because she’s targeting the biggest sector of the market: girls and women with low income who deserve a chance to look beautiful. And this is her third right decision.

Other cosmetics companies shoot for the higher income customers and leave the low income ones to low quality products that are in my opinion a waste of money.

The above 3 right decisions made it inevitable for her business to expand quickly and acquire a large share of the cosmetics and beauty market, competing with big names like Cover Girl and Nicole Miller.

Drew Barrymore has built her status as a celebrity in the beauty market. This celebrity status gave her credibility when she talks about beauty (used by Cover Girl). And when it was time to build her own cosmetics and beauty business she had her market ready to buy instantly.

Drew is also using the Internet, especially social media, to do her marketing and advertising. If you follow her on twitter you will find out why. She’s giving away samples of her new lines to her followers, shooting a series of beauty tips on Tuesday, and is being friendly and lovable by her fans who are in direct contact with her on social media. We’re talking about the social proof here.

This system alone the Drew is using to keep in contact with her market is the ultimate manifestation of an Evergreen Launch(TM). Every time a new product is out her customers are already waiting for it to buy it once to try it, and buy it again and again  until a new line comes out.

Drew’s business model is worthy of spending months and years to study it and follow, and this short article would do it no justice. Her life is also an example to be followed by those who are going through hardships.

The end of Squidoo

For years squidoo had been one of the important sources of traffic and direct affiliate commissions. I loved their platform, especially that despite the ads noise my affiliate links were being clicked and I was making sales.

Lately things changed, and the traffic that was going to my squidoo lenses suddenly dropped and slowly faded until the point that I neglected the whole thing. I stopped building any new lenses and even stopped logging in to check on the old ones.

Big G was playing against them. Once Big G’s favorite pet, now they are struggling to get any love, and a new player is now at the top: HubPages. Squidoo tried hard to get Big G’s love back. They changed the rules, locked lenses and accounts … but they just lost both Big G’s and their users love.

That was until I logged in my account on Aug. 15th, which was the day Squidoo announced their end and moving their contents to HubPages.

What do you know!

I had the feeling that something big would happen before the end of the year. I was just hoping it will happen after the end of the holidays season.

I know marketers who are making their living for the year during the holidays season through their squidoo lenses and Amazon associate accounts. I am confident they’ll find a way out, especially that now we have over a month to prepare. My sorrow is for the small start up marketers who rely solely on squidoo.

Any way, squidooers now have two options:

Either continue with the transfer and learn more about how to get the most mileage out of HubPages and hope for the best. They might buy a course or two to learn how to make it work for them in the short time left before the holidays shopping season.

In this case you might need this inexpensive course hub pages fast line.Hubpages instead of squidoo: Marketing Online 101

Or, they might let the transfer happen and HubPages take over while they learn something new to get an even bigger slice of the holidays spending season. And I mean a specific training on the warrior forum by Erica Stone, one of the most respected Pinterest experts when it comes to making affiliate commission.

She actually prepared a guide for how to use Pinterest to make money as an Amazon affiliate during the holidays season. How convenient!

You can check out her guide by clicking here.

What I will do is that I’ll let the transfer go, the lenses (now hubs) that promote click bank products or link to a site that does (yes, they are that nosy at hub pages) will go to my websites. I had enough of giving my content to third party sites that don’t appreciate it.

You too should do the same with your lenses. If you can buy a domain and hosting as cheap as $1.99/month by all means go for it and let those sites worry about their own content while you focus on getting traffic to your site and building your list. These two are your online business assets, nothing else compares to them.

Blogs still can make you money

make money blogging: Marketing Online 101In this post I’ll outline a method for building a business starting with just a blog. It is inspired by Ryan Deiss’s new product. I am not affiliated with Ryan Deiss and am not promoting his product, but it’s a good value if you want to get it, and is reasonably priced.

As I always say in this blog and my other articles, start by choosing a topic you like and can write in it. In this example I’ll pick the topic of building muscles. Start by just choosing the main topic then move to the keyword research later.

The reason keyword research is not the first step any more is because of the EMD update of Mr. big G that ruined it for all affiliate marketing blogs that use this exact match domain method. Not totally, but it’s harder than it used to be.

The domain should include the keyword building muscles though. And that’s it for now. Go to  namecheap.com and buy your domain (costs around $10/year). After you do that come back to do the next step.

After you have your domain now you need to host it. You can use hostgator.com and the coupon code MO101BLOGMONEYPOST to get the first month for free just to try the method, or if you are serious you can buy a long term hosting from iPage Web Hosting for only $2.25/mo!! it’s cheaper on the long term.

From your iPage or hostgator account contact technical support and ask them to help you host your new domain. Be clear about your wish to “host” the domain and not “transfer it” to them.

The reason I recommend you buy the domain from name cheap is that you don’t want your domain and host to be the same company. If anything goes wrong with the hosting you can get another hosting and take your domain with you. Domains that come with the hosting are usually owned by the hosting company and transferring them is a real pain. So from the beginning have your domain separate.

Again stop reading, go do this step, and come back after you’re done.

Now from the control panel in hostgator click fantastico (a light blue smiley face)  and install “WordPress” on your hosting. If you have chosen iPage use “Weebly” to build your website (it uses WordPress too, but with cool themes and is way easier than the manual way). Again contact technical support if you need help, they’ll be more than happy to help you start.

Important: Don’t choose admin as your login name. Use anything else to make the hacker’s job harder.

Get the blog built and come back for more steps.

Now you need to set up your blog. Go to yourdomain.com/wp-admin and enter the user name and password you’ve chosen while building your blog. And this is where you’ll be doing all the work from.

Go to “settings” and choose “permalinks”. Change that to /%category%/%postname%/

Now go to posts and delete the “hello world” post, or edit it if you want, but in that case delete the comment that came with it.

Go to pages, and make these pages: About, Contact, Privacy.

Go to plugins and install “all in one SEO”, “Nebula Facebook Comments”, “Slick Social Share Buttons”, and “Google XML Sitemaps”.

Fianlly go to iContact and sign up for the smallest package (you can upgrade as you grow). Set up a mailing list and get the sign up form code, copy it and paste it on your site in the widgets area. Offer your subscribers a valuable piece of content (a pdf file will do it) and ask them to sign up to your newsletter to get it.

Now your website is ready to work for you. Start posting about your subject and don’t worry much about your keywords, we’ll work on that later.

Now after you have like 5-10 general articles in your subject it’s time to work on making money. Go to Google keyword planner and search for keywords related to your subject that include a buyer’s intention. For our example of building muscles I’d search for keywords related to nitric oxide side effects.

A person looking for nitric oxide side effects is likely to be in the buying decision mode but wants to make sure he’s not going to be hurting himself with it. Gather low search volume keywords related to nitric oxide side effects and use them all to make a post title, headers, picture alt tags, bold and italicized phrases etc.

Make sure to include all of them in the description box provided by All in one SEO plugin, in the keywords box, and in the tags.

Monetize this post with an advertising for nitric oxide supplement from a CPA network.

Get back links for this post and to the home page. The best back links to get are from relevant pages with a high PR. The second best is to find a high PR blog, write a good article about nitric oxide and include a link to your post and offer it to be published on that site as a guest post. A post on a high PR site can get a high PR itself fast and pass it to your site.

Do that every day and keep your content useful to the users. If they like your content they’ll probably spread the word for you, which means high quality traffic for free.

Also make sure you are advertising something that provides a high value to your readers. If they don’t like it you’ll find a viral Facebook campaign to ruin your blog’s reputation. Respect your readers and they’ll make you money.

Those backlinks that you are building by guest posting will eventually pass linke juice to your site and you’ll get a PR of your own. At this point start contacting the top names in your industry, in our example famous body builders and ask them to either write something for you, provide a video footage, or a skype (or phone, or in person) interview.

After you get each piece of such celebrity content get a press release from erelease and spread the word. Make sure you have the viral tools set up, by which I mean the social sharing buttons as in the plugins step.

From the response to these pieces of valuable contents you can choose one of those stars to author or co-author a product that you can sell to your readers.

And/or you can get those celebrities to provide you with monthly content and issue your own paid newsletter with a monthly subscription and offer it as an upgrade to your list of subscribers. This is a recurring monthly income.

How to Succeed as a CPA Publisher

CPA (Commission Per Action) networks are networks that allow businesses to access a pool of experts in marketing to help them get more leads for their businesses. The other side of the coin, that’s for affiliate marketers, we get access to a pool of clients who need our service to market for their businesses and help them acquire more leads. As the name says we, the affiliates, earn our commission every time the desired actions takes place through our links (mostly lead generation, some times sales).

In plain English, bring in more leads to those businesses and earn more money. So our job as affiliates is to generate as many leads to those clients, and to gain the trust of as many clients as we possibly can handle.

Gaining the trust of a client means more business for us and more stability in our career as affiliate marketers. Cheating, on the other hand, means less business for all of us and the more the cheaters go on with their schemes the less business we’ll have access to in the future, and quite possibly the whole industry will come to an end.

Therefore, it’s our best interest as marketers to bring in the best leads we can qualify for our clients, period.

I came across several CPA training courses on forums and on some networks, and after I went through them I would highly advise against using any of those systems. The only thing that will happen is that the affiliate will make a quick buck for maybe a month or two (if at all, those methods get discovered by advertisers and those who use them get banned from the networks). Getting paid is another story. If the leads are mainly bad leads the advertiser is not going to pay and the network will not pay you, which makes it pointless to follow those schemes.

At the end of the day we want our career to cotinue growing so that we can have a stable life and pass our businesses to our kids after we retire or pass away, and following those schemes can only guarantee us the opposite.

Only two of those training courses made it through my personally set filters. The common theme between the two successful CPA training courses is that they prequalify the leads while convincing them that our client is the best match for them.

The method used by both of them is that you, the affiliate, will put your hands on the product or try the service you are considering to promote. Get a user experience then share it with your audience (list, followers, fans, blog readers … etc.).

This way you’ll know whether you have a winner or not (if the offer is all b.s. you don’t want to share it with anyone). Also you’ll have a clear idea of who will be happy with this product, then laser target your marketing efforts to reach only those.

A third advantage of this “user experience” approach is that you’ll know what you’re talking about, hence more credibility and more trust from your audience, translated into more cash in your account.

Of course there are offers that appeal to everybody, so you don’t need to try the product itself because you probably have a personal user experience with the whole industry that’s enough for you to prepare your marketing material and the customers will most probably be satisfied.

And this brings us to the second factor of success as a CPA publisher. The first is being personal, and the second is to tap into the big markets.

Furtunately the biggest industry around; the “travel” industry, has affiliate programs on some CPA networks like neverblue.com. The travel industry is the $160 billion/year pool of cash that offers us the opportunity to take our share of this huge cake.

Also there’s a decent training on how to earn from this industry. Needless to say you should exercise some good judgement on the material. The training claims something like $200/day from a single website. While quite possible to achieve in this industry, it’s better to be realistic and understand that this is not going to be an overnight success.

The training is called CPA Tycoon Core Method.

The third component of success as a CPA publisher is to build your authority. Authority rules in this industry of affiliate marketing. For example if you are planning to be a successful CPA publisher in the field of fitness you’d better be a figure in the fitness industry.

This is easier than you think it is. Not convinced yet? Two words for you: Facebook, Youtube.

In this era of Internet you can be famous and popular first, then the TV will be seaking after you. In the past it was the other way around.

So if you are going after the fitness industry you can have your videos on youtube and share them on a fan page on facebook and you’re gold. I mean that literally. Building a fan base is easy with facebook ads, and putting your videos on youtube is a child play. Combine the two and you’ll have a “flood” of traffic to your video and your face will become more popular that the persident’s.

I am working on a training of my own, it will take some time to prepare and test with volunteers. Once that is in place I’ll announce it first to my list before it becomes available to the public. So make sure you join my list (find the opt in somewhere on this page).

Today’s recommendation: Loots4Leads.

Youtube Traffic

Since the beginning of my Internet marketing career back in 2006 I realized one thing: video converts. All things equal, video is the best way to deliver the message. A long sales page that can be read in 3 hours could be compressed in a 10 minutes video and get even better conversion.

As a marketer I use video to generate traffic towards my sales funnel. And the best way to get those videos in front of as many eyeballs as possible is to post it on youtube. There are other video sharing sites where I post my videos and get more traffic to my sites, but the vast majority of the views and clicks thru to my sites come from youtube.

And it’s not only me, all marketers agree with me on that youtube is the best video sharing site for marketing purposes.

What we differ about is what content should be in the video.

Some marketers preach, and teach in their 4-digit cost courses, that you can make something as simple as a power point presentation and capture it on video with your voice in the background, upload it to youtube and start promoting it.

And that my friend is the worst advice I ever got in my career as a marketer. Not only those videos get low views and conversions, but also they can get your videos and channel deleted, and your account closed.

Youtube is a video sharing site, which is as social as it can get. The only way for a video to get views and be promoted for you by being likeable and shareble. The views, likes, and shares generate more views and likes and shares until you qualify to upgrade to a youtube partner, which means more money from youtube itself regardless of the traffic you generate to your sites.

The social factor lies in the content of the video and how you make it. It all starts with the title. Two videos could have the same content, but one of them goes viral because its title is either funny or controversial and people think it’s cool to share with their social media friends. Everytime you get a happy viewer share your video on their facebook page or twitter you are on your way to make more money.

How to shoot/capture the video is another factor and it depends on the topic. I watched many powerpoint/voice videos that were really funny and  worth sharing, so it can be done with the simplest tools available. Also have a look at the private channels of some youtube starts. Most of their videos are commentaries done by themselves in front of their laptop or tablet camera on a topic that just hit the news and got viral, so they ride the wave and make views and money.

Make Money for Free

The power of the Internet made it possible to anyone with a computer and an Internet connection to be able to generate some income. There are many ways to make money online, and they all vary in terms of the level of complexity, the grace periods you have to wait before you see any money, and the cost. In this article you’ll learn about one method that costs nothing and can make you money for free as an affiliate. There are several ways to make money as an affiliate, and this method explained herein is the simplest and at the same time it costs nothing to begin.

The whole idea is that you need to drag people to your affiliate link and convince them to buy this product. So first you need to sign up as an affiliate to this product and get that affiliate link of yours. There are many affiliate networks where you can sign up and get access to thousands of products that you can promote as an affiliate. The most famous of them are Amazon.com and ClickBank.com.

After you sign up to a network it’s time to pick a product to promote. If you are going to stick to Amazon because it’s a well known and is highly reputable then follow these steps.

Please note: Amazon.com requires that you have a website in order to get approved. You can use a free blogger or wordpress blog on which you have some serious and valuable content. It’s better of course if you own the website, but I want this method to be totally free.

– Go to amazon.com and from the side navigation menu pick a department that interests you. This will help you with the “selling” process.

– In that department and from the same navigation menu choose to show only products with 4 stars and up under the customer review title. This will help you choose a product for your promotion that has a better chance to be sold and a lower chance to be refunded if the customer is not happy. Also it will help you build a reputation as a person who is genuine in your recommendations.

– Make sure “include out of stock” is unchecked. You don’t want to waste your time on something that doesn’t exist any more.

– This step is not necessary, but if you are living out side of the US you’d better check the “amazonglobal eligible” under “international shipping”. This will maximize your chances of making a sale no matter where your customers come from. And no this is not going to limit your choices much. I just did that while writing this article in the appliances department and got 13,595 items.

– To filter your results even further click on one of the “discount” options. You’ll need this to do your promotion.

– Pick a product that you’d buy for yourself, or even better, that you already bought and have experience with. An example from life is a wii game that we got for our daughter and her friends’ parents were interested in. I went to my amazon associate account, picked my affiliate link, wrote a review of the product and posted it on my blog together with my affiliate link and emailed a link to the blog post to them and made sales.

– Now do as I did in the step above. You have a product that you know a friend of yours is interested in, grab your affiliate link, write a review and post it on that free blog of yours that you used to sign up as an amazon associate, and email a link to your blog post to that friend and tell them in the email that you found it discounted on amazon.

So you’ll do your friends a favour by saving them some money, you’ll do yourself a favour by making some money, and you’ll do Amazon a favour by generating that sale for them.

Now relying totally on your friends to make those affiliate commissions is not really a good idea. At some point you’ll have to move on and get other people from the huge Internet community to see your blog posts and start leveraging the power of search engines. But for now you have an audience that can give you feed back about your blog posts or squidoo lenses that you generated around those products. Use this feedback to improve your “display” of your affiliate products so that when you open your “store” to the public you’ll be ready to convert your visitors into buyers.

It’s time to take it to the next level. Use Erica Stone‘s strategy for holidays shopping season affiliate commission.

5 Criteria of a Successful Online Income System

It is a trend that recently people are shitfing towards building a business in the virtual world than in real life. Software, mobile apps, and games are billion dollar examples of businesses that have no physical existance. Another extreme example is club neverdie from the virtual reality game Entropia that was sold for $635,000 two years ago!

And the reason is pretty obvious: the low over head. You can start an affiliate marketing income system with $0 budget. So there is a trend. And since you are here then you might be interested in it yourself. If so then it is important to know what differentiates a successful online income system from a temporaty one or just plain failure.

There are 5 important criteria for a successful online income system:

1. Sustainability:

A sustainable business is the kind of business that once started it keeps feeding itself with the resources it needs to keep going. In other words, you don’t need to keep doing the same thing over and over again every day so that the business works. If not then when you stop working for any reason of sickness or emergency or just plain vacation your income will stop flowing until you come back and start working again. If your business is sustainable it only requires you to steer it while it supplies itself with the needed stuff like traffic.

2. Independence:

Do you remember the famous affiliate Google slap back in December 2008? Those affiliates had a sustainable business and it was growing and making them millions every day. But once Google unplugged their Adwords accounts they lost everything and had to start allover with other sources of traffic.

That was not an independent income system because it was all built on traffic from one source. When this source is gone the business is gone as well. Successful affiliates learned to diversify their sources of traffic in a way that no source should account for more than 10% of their entire traffic portfolio. This way if one source is gone they still have 90% of their business running until they figure out how to replace the lost 10%.

3. Automation:

Once you have a system that works you can divide it into tasks. Then find a way to get those tasks done for you so that your job will be just to manage the process, not to have to do it all yourself over and over. The idea about perfecting the system is that you can automate it and free yourself for more ideas and the expansion of your business.

An income system that can not be automated is destined to decline and fail. Automation gives you the chance to grow and make up the drops that will show later on.

4. Repetition:

The repetition meant in this context is the one done by the same customer. When you sell something to a customer and the customer has to come back for supplies or more of the same thing because it is a consumable then you’re in a good shape. When you sell a photocopier or a prtiner make sure the customer will come back to refill the toner and buy more parts to maintain the item they purchased. Another example is baby diapers and women’s make up. If they like your brand they’ll come back for more.

Compare the above examples with a customer who purchased a bicycle.

5. Predictability:

Once my income system has been optimized I should know for each dollar I spend how much I will make in return and over how long. This is predictability. Let’s apply this to traffic. If you rely on SEO then you have no ability of any kind to predict the amount of traffic you will get from the time and money you spend on optimizing your sites because the biggest search engine changes the algorithms more than 400 times a year. That’s more than once a day. On the other hand if you are buying the traffic then you can predict what to get for each dollar you spend on advertising.

Those were the most important criteria of a successful online income system. There is more of course, but in my opinion these are the most important 5.

Clickbank or Amazon?

I get this question like crazy from my friends who learned to do affilaite marketing from me:

As an affiliate would you rather promote Amazon Kindle or Clickbank ebooks?

As a beginner with Amazon associate programs you get 4% commission on each sale, after the seventh sale you get 6% … even if you are making a ton of sales each month … still you get 8.5% commission. Given that each kindle book sells for an average of $10, that’s 40-85 cents per sale. Is it at all worth it?

To make the picture a little more clearer, we are comparing with Clickbank equivalent where you get on average 50% commission on stuff that sell for $40 on average. This is a whole different animal here.

Still the picture is not clear.

You also need to know that when people visit Amazon.com whatever they buy from the site you get commission on it. So if you send them to an ebook about cars and they end up buying a sweatshirt you still get the commission. Clickbank products, on the other hand, only give you commission if this particular item sells. If they buy something else even if it is another clickbank product you get nothing.

Another factor to consider is that Amazon is a trusted marketplace, while Clickbank products are individuals with different, and definitely inferior to Amazon.com in terms of reputation. This makes a difference in conversion rates within the 10-fold range. Amazon’s product pages are designed to convert, while this conversion ability of Clickbank products varies greatly from product to another, but never as good as Amazon’s.

Finally, there is another factor that makes a huge difference on your decision whether to promote an Amazon Kindle ebook or comparable item from Clickbank. It’s the availability of Amazon’s associate program in your country or state. Some states and some countries’ residents are not allowed to join Amazon’s associate program because of the kind of taxes and paper work required from Amazon every time they issue you a commission check.

I hope you can decide on your own now, but as a beginner and when possible I recommend that you start with Amazon. Little by little your commission checks will grow bigger. At the same time track and split test your conversions. I have some sites that make me way more money from Clickbank products than when I had only Amazon links on them. Eventually I removed Amazon links completely from those sites.

Other sites are only making me money from Amazon and the Clickbank product I was promoting on them never converted. It all comes down to testing.

Another Totally Free Affiliate Marketing Method

Updated Aug. 24th, 2014.

In this method we will utilize the power of social media to generate free traffic to an affiliate offer.

Facebook and hubpages are the two sites we will be using to make affiliate commission. First of all go to any affiliate network other than Clickbank and pick a really good product. CPA offers are mostly low value and are not going to work with this method. I prefer info products because there are really high value ones. In this example I’ll take a baby sign language product, find one on Amazon.com.

Go to hubpages.com and build a hub about the product. Vendors/authors are usually OK with you using their images to promote their products, but just to be safe ask first. Make the first image in the introduction module an appealing one (don’t use a box or book cover image for this matter).

The second step is build  a fan page about the same subject. In our example that will be baby sign language. Start posting about the subject. Include some news, videos, and some stories and make your most recent post a Facebook-like to your hub (visit your hub and you’ll find the Facebook-logo button, click it and write something in the post then click “post”).

Now while on Facebook click down arrow next to the “home” tap at the top right, and from the menu choose to use Facebook as your new fanpage.

Time to get some traffic. Go to the search box of Facebook and search the most obvious term related to your product, in our example it will be “baby”. Go to those fanpages one by one and browse their most recent posts, like the ones you really like and leave a genuine comment. Now that you are using Facebook as ur fanpage, the comments that you leave will be from your “baby sign language” fanpage. Some will go to your fanpage to see who left this comment (if they like it) and some of them will probably like your page. And this is the beginning of the social marketing “virus”. Your page will show on their profile and might also grab the attention of their friends.

It is extremely important that you do two things right from the beginning:

1. When you build your fanpage do your research and only post things that provide a really high value to your fans.

2. When you leave a comment on someone else’s fanpage leave a high value comment. Never ever ask for likes or visits.

To start seeing results you need a couple hundred fans, and to get there you need to post on you fanpage daily, visit related fanpages and leave genuine high value comments for at least 2 hours every day. The more work you put in this method the faster you’ll reach your goal.

Now please note that you can not link to an Amazon product straight from your fan page (it would have been easier and more converting than having a hubpage in the middle). The reason is that at Amazon associate program they don’t like and could close your account.

I have a technique that I am using to direct-link on Facebook to clickbank (which is my favourite affiliate network), but it costs me $500 (one time). It’s worth it because my conversion rate increases dramatically over using a landing page of any kind and they pay up to 75% commission as opposed to Amazon’s 4-8%, but it won’t be free then .. now would it?

I hope this method works for you and you start making money online for free as an affiliate.

Affiliate Marketing After the Penguin, Panda … and whatever

It really feels bad when you wake up one day to find that your income has been unplugged by someone playing GOD over you. And do you know what’s even worse? when someone makes up a rumor that affiliate marketing is dead because HIS sites are gone.

It’s really bad because it makes new affiliates give up although this statement about the death of affiliate marketing could not be further from the truth.

I am an affiliate and I am making my living out of affiliate marketing and promoting other people’s sites and products. And this whole “death of affilaite marketing” thing is nothing but a rumor. At least not due to the latest Google updates.

First of all I don’t rely on Google’s search engine traffic in my business. I am a “paid traffic” guy. And that’s for a reason: I am running a business. To run a business you need to know your ROI on everything you do before you decide to do it. With paid traffic I can do that. With Google’s organic traffic I can NOT do that due to those updates of his.

Still, I get organic traffic from Google search results to all of my websites. And due to the large number of sites that I have I can tell whether this is a trend or not. So let’s get into it.

Some of my sites have been hit badly by the new updates. By badly I mean losing more than half of the traffic they were getting from big ol’G. Other sites moved up and are getting more traffic.

The rest of the story is more important …

Most of the sites that were hit badly started to climb up again and caught up with the first page once more. Still this is not the whole story yet.

What’s ironic in this movement is that my income from those sites is almost the same as before the updates. And that’s because Google’s traffic represents less than 5% of the total traffic I am getting to my sites.

That’s right. Less than 5% of my traffic is from organic search engine results. The rest comes mainly from paid traffic. But this is not all.

If you are on my list or have been following my pdfs you’d know that I have a method for free traffic that has nothing to do with Google and it’s my favorite free traffic method. It worked for me 5 years ago, last year, before Google updates, after Google updates, and is still working until now.

And this method is article marketing, but not as you know it.

Most of the courses that teach article marketing, like “my online income system“, focus on two concepts that I don’t like:

1. Getting back links from the articles directories and if you’re lucky you’ll get some from publisher’s sites as well, and

2. Ranking the article in search engines so that they send you traffic!

And that’s for a reason, Google gives authority to big sites with large numbers of pages and you have a better chance ranking your article in search engine results if you publish them on those big sites than on your small site.

My method is built on a totally different concept:

1. Your articles are not going to be spammy articles. On the contrary, you’ll be writing really good articles and will publish them on your site first. There was a rule of 500 words, forget that. Don’t limit yourself to the number of words and write for the readers. Impress them.

2. Rewrite your articles (dont’ spin them, really rewrite them) and publish them on article directories. A really good article will be picked by other sites, and here comes your back link. The most important thing here is to ignore that “anchor link” thing because this is what identifies a spammy link. Just place a plain url for your website.

3. Also the good article (the one on your site and that one on the article directory) will pick up traffic quickly if you go viral on Facebook because you’ll be proud to share it and your friends will also share it. And here comes some traffic to your site from the social giant.

4. Contact the owners of the websites that published your article and offer them more articles written just for them. Mention the panda and they’ll thank you for your offer. Now you can include the anchored links in your articles.

This method has been mentioned elsewhere on this site and on my other site fomt.biz, porbably a bit different now than when I first published it but it’s almost all the same. The main difference is that plain url in the article bio box.

So here you have it. Affiliate marketing is not dead due to Google slaps or anything. But it could die due to something else.

As you might know, I am a CPA guy. Of course I don’t promote trash scammy offers. The same affiliate networks that have the trash also have some good stuff. Since the end of 2011 and utnil now the affiliate networks that I have been working with have been disappearing one after the other. Some file bankruptcy and some are still operating but stopped paying affilaites! Only a couple are still working with me and the mother company of one of them is filing bankruptcy, so it’s all declining. The only networks that have not been touched are Clickbank, Amazon, and Commission Junction among a few others. This is not a good picture for the future of affiliate marketing, although there is an advantage in it (the disappearance of trash offers).

Anyways, sites like Clickbank and Commission Junction look like they’re here to stay around for quite a while, so don’t let those “death of affiliate marketing” voices discourage you. Go ahead and do it.
